They came as early as 1621 and as late as the 1830s. They were a mixture of German, Swiss, Dutch, English, Welsh, Scottish and Scots-Irish. They emigrated to New England, New York, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania and then spread through the Carolinas, Georgia and the Midwest. They fought in King Philips War, the American Revolution, the War of 1812 and on both sides during the Civil War. They were Puritan, Quaker, Mennonite, Amish, Lutheran, Baptist and Presbyterian.
