About Our Family Research

The surname "WARD" in South Africa is mostly carried by persons who immigrated from the British Isles in the early 1800's. Henry John Ward, my father, first came to South Africa in the 1930's as a driver/mechanic for a Lady who had purchased a Rolls Royce in England on condition they supplied a driver/mechanic for her trip to South Africa.
Whilst in South Africa my father met my mother,Lillian Brady, who was holidaying in Kalk Bay. He returned to England and shortly thereafter came to settle in South Africa. My mother and father married in 1935 in Johannesburg. Jack, as my father was commonly known, joined the Johannesburg Traffic Department and served with them until the time of his retirement in 1954.
