Maternal Line using Mitochondral DNA

Updated November 28, 2007

About Our Family Research

Women's lack of a distinctive surname to pass to their offspring makes tracing one's maternal line almost impossible; however, mtDNA mutations can aid in this search, although it remains difficult.

I hope that by identifying women with the following mutations, along with their known maternal line, we will be able to discover some of our own unknown maternal ancestors:

16069T, 16126C, 16145A, 16172C, 16222T, 16261T,
73G, 185A, 242T, 263G, 295T, 315.1C, 462T, 489C
