Bulletin #3 UP-DATE: October/November 2006
The 2nd Wood Family Reunion is still a goer. The reunion will be held between 06 April to 09 April 2007. This is Easter 2007. Please note that the school holidays also start from the 06 April 2007.
As well as catching up with those that came in 2003, it would be really great to see new faces. Families are also most welcome and could use the reunion as part of their holiday is this area of NZ.
VENUE We are again hopeful to book the same venue / focal point as used for the 2003 Reunion - Takapuwahia Marae, Porirua. Porirua is about 30kms north of Wellington city and Lower Hutt areas. More details on directions will be posted at a later date.
ACCOMMODATION The organisers will not be arranging accommodation, other than help those from outside the area with advice. Although yet to confirm, basic accommodation at the Marae would be possibly. This involves sleeping on mattresses on the floor in the Meeting House, which you need to bring all other sleeping gear such as sleeping bag or blankets. There is plenty of types of accommodation between Plimmerton and Porirua, the Wellington area and the Lower Hutt / Upper Hutt areas to choose from. If you purchase a copy of the "Jason's Motel Accommodation and Campground" books from bookshops, this will help you. As mentioned above, this reunion is at the start of the school holidays, so start booking accommodation early.
PROGRAM An "early draft" program may look like:
Fri 06 April 07 [This reunion may start early then in 2003] Late-morning Marae Welcome / Lunch / Brief Welcome Afternoon Possibly a 'short' Bus Trip
Sat 07 April 07 [Main Day] About a 9am start Brief Welcome / Discuss Weekend program, etc Rest of Morning Hopefully things such as Slide Show, etc Afternoon Book launch / Reunion Photos / Free time
Sun 08 April 07 Bus Trip (Day) Looking at something different but still of reunion interest.
Mon 09 April 07 Mainly for farewell's.
Evenings - Nothing has been looked at, at this stage, but could be used for any activities that would interest people. Meals - We hope to use the Marae people to provide the meals again. While at the Marae, morning & afternoon tea will be provided. Dinner will also be provided for most of the evenings.
REGISTRATION / COSTS Peole are now asked to contact Les Warren (phone/email/mail)whether they "intend" on coming to the reunion. I kindly ask you to also send in a deposit of $50 per two people to help with any expenses prior to the reunion. Those unable to attend will be fully refunded, less a small administrative cost. The full Reunion costs have not been worked out, but these will be kept to a minimum.
When registering your interest, can you please state what days you will attend; days for dinner (Fri/Sat/Sun); Bus trips interested in. Please also state the number of people for each question.
Family Book - Please let me also know whether you require a copy of the book, and how many copies. I hope to let people know the cost in January/February 2007.
WOOD FAMILY BOOK This is progressing well and will be ready for distribution at the Reunion. Briefly; the book will mainly focus on William Wood / Eraiha Ngapaki and their descendants, but will also include sections on what I have managed to compile on our English and Australian connections.
FURTHER DETAILS More details are planned to be sent out around January/February 2007.
