Margaret Ngamihi Barter Dansey & Alan John Webb of Auckland

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

Margaret can trace her European ancestry back to an entry in the Domesday book referring to "Brinsop" in Hereford which was granted to D'Ansey after the Norman invasion in 1066. She can trace her Maori ancestry back to the Aotea and Te Arawa canoes.

John can trace his ancestry on his fathers side to Captain Thomas Hansen and his wife Hannah. Thomas Hansen was the captain of the brig "Active" which bought The Reverend Samuel Marsden and the first missionaries to New Zealand at the end of 1814. The grandchildren of Thomas and Hannah were the first European children born in New Zealand.

On his mother's side he can trace his ancestry back to the late 18th century when Ferdinand Meurant, a jeweller, was deported from Ireland to Sydney, for forging bank notes.
