James Leech (son of John Leech and Sarah (Collins ?) Leech) was born 1779 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina [Old Ninty-six District], and died 1863 in Graves County, Kentucky. He married Martha Drennon on March 11, 1806 in Livingston County, Kentucky, daughter of William Drennon and Sarah Barnes.
Notes for James Leech: James Leech left South Carolina before 1799 and migrated to western Kentucky settling in the part of Livingston County, which became a part of Caldwell County in 1809. This area became a part of the Jackson Purchase in 1818.
In the year 1833-1834 James & Martha Leech moved their family further west into the heart of the Jackson Purchase and settled in the southern part of Graves County. When the Burnett Chapel Methodist Church was organized in 1855 the Leech family, who were Methodist, became members. Many of their descendants are buried in the church cemetery.
