OBITUARY - Anderson County News
James Henry McClain
"The subject of this sketch was born in Shelby County, Ky., Nov. 13, 1862. In early youth, his parents moved to Indiana, but when he grew to manhood he came to Anderson County. He married Miss Jennie Duncan, by whom he had seven children, four of whom survive him. In 1904. In 1904 his wife died, leaving him to care for his little ones, which he did with motherly care and fatherly love. On April 16, 1906, he married Miss Jennie Vander Schaaff, of Jamestown, N.Y., who has been a tender wife and a loving mother to his motherless children. Brother McClain was a hard-working man, honest, true and good. He was a noble Christian, having joined the Lawrenceburg Presbyterian church October 4, 1908, with his wife. He was a Master Mason, having been elected Chaplin of Anderson Lodge No. 90. He died June 28, 1910 at 4 a.m., of blood poison, caused by a wound received while in the discharge of his duty. All who knew him loved and respected, because he was an honorable, Christian man. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wm C. Lindsay, D.D. The body was laid to rest by his first wife in Salt River cemetery, with Masonic ceremonies. Thus ends the story of a beautiful life lived in humble simplicity and unswerving faith in God and his brother man. Take him all in all, "He was a man." His wife and children have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends. Wm. C. Lindsay
