Susannah Hawkins & Henry Kilby had their first child Samuel Kilby Hawkins before the were married. There were five daughters born later, presumably after the marriage was solemnized. These are the children named in Matthew Hawkin's will of 1820 as his six grandchildren, "their brother Samuel Hawkins,ect." The reason they are named in his will is because their father, Henry Kilby, had died by 1816 when Susannah married Benjamin Duncan.

Mercer County Marriage Book 1, page 245 - March 9, 1818: Marriage bond of Samuel Hawkins and Elizabeth Raines, William Raines was security.

Culpeper County, Virginia Will Book H, pages 196-197 - June 19, 1820
Named in will of Mathew Hawkins as "My grandson Samuel Hawkins...[brother] of Clarissa Kilby, Malinda Kilby, Julia Franklin Kilby, Veranda Kilby, and Sarah Ann Ballenger Kilby."

1820 Census Franklin County, Kentucky, page 142, Lawrence Township, lists Samuel Kilby.

Mercer County, Kentucky Deed Book 13, page 484: Samuel Hawkins purchased 100 acres on Hickory Nut Creek in 1823, adjacent to land of Allin Rains witnessed by "two other Rains men."

Culpeper County, Virginia Deed Book QQ, page 455, April 19, 1824
"This Indenture between Samuel Hawkins agent of Susannah Duncan of the first part and Aaron House of the second part was proved in the Clerk's office the 19th day of April 1824 by the oaths of Thos. Ball and Aylett Miller and Joel Hitt three of the witnesses thereto Whereupon the same together with the Power of Attorney thereto annexed and the Certificate thereon endorsed is admitted to record."

1827 Tax List of Anderson County, Kentucky lists Samuel Hawkins, one white male over 21, 2 slaves, 3 horses, 100 acres in Anderson County on BEAVER CREEK. Total valuation $735.

1830 census of Mercer County, KY, page 91: Samuel K. Hawkins, age 30-40 (b. 1790-1800) and 1 male under 5, 3 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 female under 5, 1 female 20-30.

September 10,1838 - James Alexander appointed surveyor of the 32nd Road Precinct by County Court in place of Samuel Hawkins, dec'd.
