Family Research on Robert Miller of Gerringong formerly of Renfrew Scotland began with the death of one of his descendants 25 years ago and continues to this day.
Robert and Elizabeth Muir his wife together with six children sailed on the OTHELLO from Liverpool, England in 1833. Robert wrote a Journal of their journey but stopped writing when the ship entered Sydney Harbour.
After some years in Sydney the family increased by three. The family then was 4 daughters and 5 sons.In 1842 Robert moved the family and they settled on 600 acres on the South Coast of New South Wales in an area called the Illawarra and locality which in 1854 became Gerringong. Robert took up farming.
The descendants of Robert and Elizabeth had their first family gathering in Gerringong in 1977. A small book was printed and released for that occasion THE MILLER FAMILY TREE 1833-1977
A great great grandson is currently working on a story in which details of the life of the family between their arrival in 1834 in Sydney and their settling in Gerringong in 1842 is being researched.
