My grand-father came to Canada from Norway in 1901. His occupation was carpentry. He was known to be in Minnesota (US) a short time later, working as a labourer, after which he came to Canada via Alberta and enrolled in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces around 1916. He went back to civilian life in 1919, and married my grand-mother Esther Stalker in Winnipeg. He and his wife had 4 children (Martha, Dick, John, Edwind) Martha married but had no children. Dick married, moved out to B.C. and had 5 children (including Don, Katherine, Ted. John married, moved to Sudbury Ontario and had 2 children (Susan and John Jr. Edwind (my father) moved to Ottawa where he met my mother (Kathleen Mary, married and had 5 children (David, Donald, Kathy, Sharon and Wendy).
I am currently looking for information re: my grandfather before he registered in 1916 with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. I am also interested in starting to look for my Stalker relatives, who arrived from England in the early 1900s and settled in Manitoba.
