The Weimers came to Michigan from Germany on June 1, 1866 on the ship Deutschland and settled in Flint, MI. They came to Michigan because my g-grandmother’s brother John Zimmerman was an established merchant in the city of Flint, Michigan. The Weimers' lived next door to the John Zimmerman’s the Mason Merchant, my great uncle. John Zimmerman was mayor of Flint and his son John C Zimmerman became county sheriff. John Zimmerman sr is known to have built nearly all the brick building in downtown Flint, Michigan. My father, John William Weimer Jr. and his sister Bessie graduated from Flint High in the early 1900's. Bessie's husband, Earl B Stone died suddenly on 3/1/1930 at a charity ball in the Durant Hotel, Flint, Mi. Bessie and Earl B Stone had two daughters Mrs. Melvin Freeman (Kathryn) and Mrs. Geiger (Maize). The Weimers and Zimmermans always lived in town in the fourth ward of Flint on Asylum and Court Streets, between my great-grandmothers siblings, Elizabeth Zimmerman Raub and her brother John Zimmerman in the house that their brother George had occupied with his wife Fredericka Loess Zimmerman prior to their deaths in 1866. The Zimmerman/Weimer family had seven children. William died in 1890, Mary Perlberg, Libbie Springer, Kate Merchant, Augusta Downing and my grandfather John William Weimer and George who died as an infant in the early 1870's. My grandfather, John William Weimer Sr. married Rachel Bower/Bauer in Imlay City, Michigan. They made their home in town in the 4th Ward of Flint Michigan. My grandfather worked as a mason for the Zimmerman Company and then as a carpenter during the housing boom created by the auto industry. He died from injuries sustained during a fall from the roof he was repairing on his house on Asylum St. My grandmother, Rachel died of pneumonia and is buried along with the Weimer family in the Weimer Family Plot Section K of Glenwood Cemetery, Flint Michigan. Rachel remarried to her brother in-law Wm Downing. The Weimer Family plot is where William and Catherine Zimmerman Weimer, my great grandparents and their children William John Weimer jr., their daughter Mary Weimer Perlberg, her daughters Florence Perlberg and Carie Perlberg Oakley, and my grandparents Rachel Bower Weimer and John William Weimer are buried. My Great Aunt Kate Weimer Merchant's family settled in Gaines Mi and are buried there. The Libbie Weimer Springer (Herman) settled in Capac MI and are buried with the rest of Weimers/Zimmermans in Glenwood Cemetery in Flint MI. Fredericka Zimmerman the daughter of my great Aunt Fredericka Loess Zimmerman and Great Uncle George Zimmerman also married into the Springer family and made her home in the 4th Ward of flint Michigan. Augusta Weimer Downing’s and her sister Mary Weimer Perlberg’s made their home in Flint MI, she had three children. Mary Weimer Perlberg died in 1890, her husband remarried in 1892 to Mary Katherine, Kugal they moved with 2 of his living children by my great Aunt Mary Weimer to Standish Michigan and raised this blend family of 3 more Perlbergs. Branches of the Weimers/Zimmermans include Peacock, Bean, Apel, Wagner, Bowers, Oakley, Stone, Freeman, Geiger, and Springer, Marshall, Zulke lived in Flint Mi. John William Weimer jr., my father moved to Detroit Mi in 1910's marrying Margaret E. Wiley. (1884-1948). They had two children Robert William who died of a horrible childhood disease in 1929. His sister Barbara burned to death on 1/1/1961 in a house fire. Barbara had one daughter Stephanie Wysocki Smith. Barbara was married 3 times and is buried along with her mother and brother in unmarked graves in Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit MI. My father John William Weimer Jr remarried to my mother Margaret Mary Beale, in Ohio in 1948. Margaret Mary Beale was a direct descendent to Rev Stephen Goodman, a Baptist minister and a member of the Michigan Pioneers.
