Ellander ?
Ellender Molly Field [7]

Est.. 1750 - est. 1835

Ellander/Elander/Elanor Molly Field is the wife of Moses Lillard and therefore the
great great grandparent of Jennie Marquardt, on the McKinney side of the
family. The given name of Ellender was found by the Iowa Jensen research efforts [5] but
no maiden name was given. As indicated, there are variations in the spelling of her given
name. The surname was found in reference [7] and is presumed to be valid.

Based on censuses of 1790 to 1840, it is estimated/calculated that Ellander was born
about 1750 and died about 1835, while husband Moses is similarly estimated to have lived
about 1748-1815. In both cases, death date is assumed to be halfway between censuses in
which they last appeared and did not appear.

Ellender married a Moses Lillard about 1769 [c1790 per (7)], probably in Rockingham
Co., NC. It is calculated, per census records, she was born in Rockingham Co., NC..

From the censuses studied, it is deduced that the children of this marriage
were born about:
-six sons in 1770, 1775, 1782, 1787, 1789, and 1790;
-three daughters in 1785, 1795, and 1805.

See the comments for Moses Lillard, Sr. and for Thomas Lillard and other children of this
marriage. [6]

Based on Census records [deceased] husband Moses, Sr. did not appear but Elender
Lillard was found listed in the NC 1820 census for Rockingham County. She is shown as:
-a single lady over age 45,
-no apparent breadwinner in the family [i.e., had no person engaged in a business]
and
-not owning any slaves.

Elender also appears in the 1830 census, as a head of household. [4]

Other Lillards are shown in this census; in fact, the Lillard surname is quite common in NC
and VA. [2]

9-3-7
Coincidentally, the next name in this survey after Elender, is John Lillard. [This would
indicate that they lived next door to each other, since Census takers often went from door
to door.] In this Census, the adult male:
- is shown as being of age 26-44 [b. 1786 to 1804], and there is
- a female age 26-44 in house, and children :
- two males under age 10 and one age 10-15;
- two female children under age 10, and one age 10-15.
They may well be a child and grandchildren of Elender.

This age of the adults correlates with a birth date range of 1776 to 1794 for a son; as
listed above, separate work shows birth dates of sons for Elender of: 1782, 1787, 1789
plus others. [2]

From Census records, it is estimated that Elender died about 1835 in Rockingham County,
NC. Reference [7] estimates death date at 1864 in Rockingham Cty., NC.

It is believed that she is buried in Lillard Cemetery, Wentworth Township, Rockingham
Co., NC., near the John Talley Ellington cemetery.

In the marriage sealing submitted to the Mormon church in 1975, there was a John D.
Lillard who married Rachel Jarrell 21 Feb., 1828 in Rockingham Co., NC. No other
information is available and we do not know who he is, but this marriage date is not
contradictory to his being a son of Elender and Moses Sr. Lillard and being born 1787-9.

==============================================================
[Please note that information on Ellander has been gathered from all references listed at
the end of biography but specific correlation for all items is not practical.]

Some of the dates for people in this family would appear to be in error. For example, birth
dates for Ellander and her husband appear to be quite reasonable but death dates for her
indicate a life of 114 years. Likewise the children birth dates are suspect.
