I am attempting to bring together information regarding the Merrells of Missouri, primarily around Rolla. Most the the family is deceased and it is difficult to find any information regarding ancestors beyond my father. My mother was orphaned around the age of 2 and sent to Missouri around 1900 on a train to an uncle named Johnathan Turner in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was later sent to Rolla to be raised by another uncle named George Turner and his wife Flora. I believe my mother was born around Vincennes Indiana along the Wabash River. Her parents died of some type of influenza outbreak leaving one sister and my mother. My father's family came to Missouri from Kentucky (I believe around Falmouth). They originally settled around northern Missouri (Brashear, Edina or thereabouts). At one time they ran a Hotel there. I believe the name at the time was the Missouri Hotel. This was around the turn of the century.
