Albert A. Were, a third generation Canadian, is compiling a family history of the Were Family in Canada.
Edwin Henry Were emigrated from England to Canada as a bachelor in 1906. He met and married an English maiden, Edith Marshall, who had also emigrated to Canada with her family in the early 1900's. They met at Edith's Mother's boarding house in Montreal and were married in 1910.
The couple had three children in Montreal prior to relocating to Nova Scotia Cir. 1916. They had another child, a boy, named Clifford Landmark, born in Nova Scotia. Clifford unfortunately died as an infant during the Great Influenza epidemic of 1918.
Edwin Frederick, the surviving son, married Edna Catherine Carroll in 1938 and moved from Eureka, Picou County, Nova Scotia to Halifax, Nova Scotia. They raised eight children, five boys and three girls. This, of course, gave a great boost to the spread of families with the Were name in Canada.
All are welcome to contribute to the information regarding ancestors and decendants of the Were Family.
