Harm Rankans (Rankin) showed up in America in 1846 Polkton, Ottawa County Michigan. It is here, with his brother Greet Rankans that the family history begins. The family seemed to remain in the area for many years, links to Dundee, Grand Rapids and Yspilanti Michigan. Legend has it 5 brothers come to America from Holland (Prussia) I have only found the above 2. Harm and Minnie had several children, one son Ben Rankin born 1863, He in turn married Cora Mickam and had one son Coy Riley Rankin 1893, He in turn had my father Richard Lee Rankin 2-22-32 d: 2-16-2005. All the above were rooted in Michigan, except my father who left for warmer weather in California in 1971, and lived a good life until his death in Feb 2005. He finally joined his family at the Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti Michigan on May 16 2005. My fathers mother was Lucile Staskievitz from Yspilanti Michigan, her parents were from Poland. I promised my father on the day he died I would never give up working on the family history. On behalf of the Rankin family, any information is welcome, stories of family members you know, where are they now? Pictures, and any good jokes that my father would have loved to hear. I can still see his smile and hear his laughter at a good joke.
