I discovered that all of the WERNICKEs in the Pioneer microfische in our local library all came from the one family. They were given assisted passage and arrived in Melbourne Australia from Germany, aboard the "Wappaus" in March 1849 when the city was only 15 years old.
I have had the fortune of making contact with a 2nd cousin and a 3rd cousin within Victoria during this time. I have information to which I can contact a 4th cousin in Germany (and hope she has learned enough english to correspond).
