About Our Family Research

I am not sure why, but I have been fascinated with family history since childhood. My grandmother chose me to tell stories about her family to and although most had since passed away, their stories always intrigued me and made them "come alive". It is still the stories of all those lives in my research that I find the most compelling.

This unfinished body of work, a long adventure into the ancestoral unknown and true labor of love, represents over 12 years of research. It is lovingly dedicated to my husband and the memory of my father and mother-in-law, William Bryant and Etta May Lake Wert, late of Mansfield, Ohio, their ancestors and their progeny. It is my desire that this research will preserve family data, photos and stories for my children, grandchildren and the entire Wert family for the future. Perhaps one of them will carry on this effort one day, at least that is my hope and inspiration.

The lives of the ancestors depicted in this tree include the remarkable and the unremarkable: pilgrims to the New World, statesmen, pioneers, doctors, lawyers, military heroes and those not so heroic, educators, clergymen, farmers, common laborers and, most likely, a derelict or two. Their contributions to the building of our great country, to strong families and the ever flowing gene pool are honored here by remembering them with love and gratitude. Even though they all passed this way but once, they should not be forgotten because the family who are alive today are true composites of those ancient souls.

"If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are a continuation of each of these people."
Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Monk, Activist and Writer.

The data on this website is incomplete and will be added to as new information is found. It is presented here with my best efforts and intention to provide accurate data using birth, death and census records, family documents as well as family Bibles. I have attempted to verify data and document where possible.

Countless email correspondents and family members shared generously the fruits of their labor with me which I have accepted in good faith. To all of them: Thank you for your time, hard work and willingness to share. I am especially grateful to Nancy Hartup Flemming (now deceased), Bruce Plummer, and Jonathan Wert, The Wert Family History Association, fellow family history sojourners whose efforts are well represented here.

If you find discrepancies with my data, please email me so information can be corrected as appropriate. If you have further information about any of the families presented here and would like to add it here, it will be most welcome, but will not be added without your permission.
