from the Beverly Tribune, July 22, 1920: Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Buttermore returned Friday from a six weeks visit with their children in Colorado, Idaho, and Washington.

Mrs. Thrall is the oldest daughter of the family. Mr. and Mrs. Buttermore will retire from the farm after harvest. Mr. Buttermore settled on the place forty-seven years ago this March and it has been his home ever since. He married a few years later and their eight children, seven daughters and one son, were born on the homestead. Now Mr. Buttermore feels unable to keep the place up as it should be and will try the retired life.
from the Beverly Tribune, December 22, 1927, page 1: Henry Lutellis Buttermore was born in Connelsville, Pa., May 29, 1848. He departed this life at his home in Beverly, Kansas, December 15, 1927. He moved with his parents to Illinois when a small boy. He enlisted in Co. C, 14th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers. Captain James C. McKenzie Commanding. He was discharged at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, September 16, 1865. He came to Lincoln Co. in the early seventies. He was a charter member of the G.A.R. Louis Christie Post No. 422, Beverly, Kansas in which he retained membership until it was discontinued. He then transferred his membership to Glen Hazen Post of Lincoln, Kansas, to which he belonged at the time of his death. He was a member of the First Christian Church, having united with that church while living in Illinois. He homesteaded a farm two miles north of Beverly, Kansas, where he lived until a few years ago when he moved to Beverly. He was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Rhodes of Beverly, Kansas September 28, 1882. To this union were born nine children, eight of whom survive him, one son having died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, and eight children, Bruce, of Crowley, Colo.; Harriet Thrall, Hood, Oregon; Mary Stewart, Colfax, Wash.; Rose Dimmick, Salina, Kansas; Irene Pile, Osborne, Kansas; Olive Webb, Ruth Towne, and Velma Buttermore of Beverly, besides several grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends. He was a kind and loving husband and father. Mr. Buttermore was a kind neighbor, an upright citizen, and a true friend, who will be greatly missed, not alone by his family and other relatives, but by his neighbors and friends and the community at large.
