Wicentowich Family (Austrian Empire)Ukraine ,Alberta Canada Updated September 19, 2002
About Our Family Research
We have resarched and traced back our family tree to 1 May 1898,when Leopold Wicentowich, (also spelled Wincintowich,Wincentowich,Wiczntowich and Wincentowicz)with his wife Irene and son Dmitro embarked on the SS Palatia at Hamburg Germany sailed via New York arriving and disembarking in Halifax Nova Scotia May 1 1898. We have traced their journey via railroad to Fort Saskachewan Northwest Territories,(now known as Edmonton Alberta. From their they went by ox team and on foot to settle in what is known as the Edna-Star area Alberta, just northwest of present day Mundare. We would appreciate any imformation that is previous to the immigration in 1898.We are led to believe that Leopold,s father was in the passenger and freight hauling field in the village of Nebyliw in the Lviv area of the Ukraine.
