My son asked me about his surname & where did it originate. I was speechless. I did not know the answer to this question, before I knew it, we were on the internet doing our family tree.
I got so caught up in this, that I found myself calling my mother, my sister in Anchorage, Alaska, & my sister in Memphis, TN. I even called my aunt in Pasadena, CA., to get answers. Needless to say, I got some answers, but not all.
I couldn't help but get angry with myself, because my grandfather died 2 years ago & he was in his right mind until the day he died, now all of that knowledge is buried. I thought about my dad's father who lived to be 99 years old & as much as we talked, I never asked him about his father or his mother.
I am now compelled to get some answers, so my son will know his heritage & not only my son, but all of my living relatives.
I am especially doing this for all of my deceased relatives, because even though they are gone, they will NOT be forgotten.
