Seeking to trace family tree through English ancestors. My first ancestor to arrive in USA was Henry Wilton, who originated in Stapleford, Cambridgeshire, England. He was born about December 1769 and arrived in New York about 1794. According to family tradition, he brought 3 chidren with him, Henry, Richard, and Harry but left his first wife in England. He married twice more after coming to America, settling first in Walton, Delaware Co., New York, and then travelling about 1810 to Gallatin Co., Illinois where his family lived and branched to other areas.
My English ancestor, Henry Wilton, from Stapleford, Cambridgeshire, came from a succession of families with the head of household also named Henry Wilton. So far, I have traced three generations of Henry Wilton's to about 1690, all living in Stapleford, Cambridgeshire.
My roots through my American ancestor, Henry Wilton, are traced from Gallatin Co., Illinois (1810) to Marion Co., Illinois (abt. 1825) to Parker Co., Texas (1865-70) to Jack Co., Texas (abt. 1880). Most of my family have lived in areas of Texas since that time.
