John Henry Williams (b. June 10, 1826, d. July 30, 1917)

John Henry Williams (son of Daniel Williams and Susan Joice) was born June 10, 1826 in Buncombe County NC, and died July 30, 1917 in Greenville SC. He married Martha Jane(Mattie) Devlin in NC, daughter of Edward (Ned) Devlin and Martha Watson.

John Henry Williams and wife moved to Travelers Rest, SC around 1880 with their son Thomas Franklin Williams and other Children.
Per his Obit. he served four years in the Confederate Army.
He served with Co. I, 25th Regiment NC Troops
He lost an arm at the Battle of Fort Stedman, Virginia. the last offensive battle of the Confederate Army.
Born in Buncombe County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Buncombe County at the age of 35, July 22 1861. present or accounted for until discharged on July 16, 1862, by reason of being over age. Re enlisted in the company on August 1, 1863. Present or accounted for until wounded in the right arm at Fort Stedman, Virginia, March 25, 1865. Right arm amputated. Hospitalized at Petersburg, Virginia, where he was captured by the enemy on April 3, 1865. Confined at various Federal hospitals until confined at Newport News, Virgina, June 6, 1865. Released on June 14, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
