Phoebe Isabella Hunter (b. Abt. 1810, d. 1907)

Phoebe Isabella Hunter (daughter of Robert Nathan Hunter and Sarah Ann Edwards) was born Abt. 1810 in Hunter Creek, Macon County NC, and died 1907. She married William (Billy)Joseph Franks on September 27, 1832 in Franklin, Macon County NC, son of Henry Franks and Amy A Davis.

Her Parents would have been native American,
She and William's marriage license reads;
State of NC, Macon County, 27th day of September 1832 Text: "hath this day of the date hereof,
applied for and obtained a License to Intermarry with Pheoba Hunter daughter of Nathan Hunter.

Some say she died in Del Rio, Tennessee around 1907. however family tradition
has it that she died else where and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Edwards cemetery on Sandy Ridge Coeburn, Va. also it is said she was blind at her death. Prior to her death she was living with
family and was referred to as "The Indian grandmother"
One researcher has said that she was scalped by our Indians because she married a white man.
This is unconfirmed.
