Peter Ottinger, was taken prisoner by confederate soldiers while on his way to join the union army.
He was placed in a cage and any time someone would come by they would be shown the Monkey.
One day he threw stone and struck the sargent. He was taken out and hanged.
Peter's father and brother tried to retrive his body but the confedrates refused to release it to a male member. Mary and a sister had to take a mule and sled to retrive the body.
