The Cantrell's of Ravia, Oklahoma

Updated November 14, 2002

About Our Family Research

I have very little information on the Cantrell or Dickson side of the house - Gastineau genealogy is complete...

Sidney Caroline Dickson, Lane, Cantrell was born in 1889 and passed away in 1951. I am looking for any information relating
to her ancestry, and am in desperate need of information about her second husband, Jim or maybe William Cantrell.

Sidney Caroline Dickson, Lane, Cantrell was the mother of 3 sons, (William Denzel Cantrell, Jay D. Cantrell, and Joel Cantrell) from a second marriage to William Cantrell (who was a divorced man). This family resided at Clarita, Oklahoma when Sidney Caroline's boys were very young. (There has been mention of relations of William Cantrell or Sidney Caroline Cantrell in the Clarita, Bromide, Ada, and Davis, Oklahoma regions.)

Sidney Caroline's first husband was Jim Lane. Jim Lane was a boxer and died of injuries he received in a boxing match in Madill, Oklahoma. I don't know where they lived during their marriage. While married they had some children...(I know Cliff Lane and Carl Lane of Ravia, Oklahoma were half-brothers to Sidney Caroline's "Cantrell" boys. There was mention of at least one half-sister). I know that Sidney Caroline's maiden name was Dickson.

Sidney Caroline's father and step-mother lived in Ravia, Oklahoma. Her mother passed away and her father married a younger woman (close to Sidney Caroline's age). I remember visiting this woman as a small child in Ravia, Oklahoma. I knew her only as "Granny Coonie".

The names of Sidney Caroline's father, mother, step-mother or siblings are not known to me.

At some point Sidney Caroline left her second husband (William Cantrell) because she believed she was living in sin, since he was a divorced man. I know nothing about this man, William Cantrell - the father of my father- William Denzel Cantrell. Sidney Caroline Dickson, Lane, Cantrell moved her children to Ravia, Oklahoma after leaving William Cantrell. She became a Church of God preacher.
