Williamson Family in IllinoisUpdated January 27, 2009 |
My great-grandfather, John Williamson, was born in Illinois in 1832 and died in Fidelity in 1868 after having rushed to finish the roof on the new Fidelity School House at the end of a sultry August. Family lore says he died of heatstroke. He left his wife Mary Ann with 3 small boys; my grandfather, William Williamson, was the youngest and still an infant. The other sons were Edgar and Francis (Frank). John is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Ruyle, Jersey County, Illinois, next to his wife Mary Ann (Norris) Williamson Aydelott (she remarried some years after his death). I am trying to research John's father. I've been told his name was Jeremiah Williamson, but no one of that name appears in Illinois censuses at the time John was a child, so it's possible that name is incorrect. I'd be very grateful for any information anyone has on this branch of the Williamsons, and of course, would be glad to share whatever I have. |
