Laura Ophelia King was my grandmother who was born in 1856 in or near San Augustine, TX. Her mother who was a slave was Sally or Sarah Ritchardson King and her father was Thomas King,allegedly the illigimate son of Thomas Jefferson who was adopted by Jefferson's daughter, his half-sister who married Sam King. It is not known whether Sally and Thomas were married but after he died, she married a former slave by the name of Sam Dodd who had five children by another marriage. Their names were Grant, Jake, Jennie. Hattie and Scurry Dodd.
Laura married a man by the name of Henry Colbert; alias Henry Craven. To this union were born George, Clarence Clifton, Pasettia, Ella, Mattie and Cornelia(my mother). Laura earlier had another son born out of wedlock; His name was Felix"Buddy" George and Ella died when they were very young.
Clarence Clifton Married a woman by the name of Bennie Maxey from Wharton,TX. To this union were born Clint,Aretta, Oscar, Billie, Bobby, Alvin, George,Loyce, and Norma.
Pasettia Married Joe Orman and they had Perry. Percy, Felix, Gladys Florence and Clarence.
Mattie married Jeff Clark and the had one daughter; Gaynell. Cornelia married Henry Harris. Their children are Norvel,Louise, Fisher and Clarence.
