[wisniewski.FTW]

this woman has been a thorn in the lineage's side for a long time. It has taken a long time to confirm, in anyway that her last name was Darling at all. The records or copies of which that survive give only her first name. In the book "The Story of the Bloods" by Harris there is a passage which eludes to her surname as having originally been Darling but from the wording it is hard to tell if that is actually what the author is saying.
the following passage speaks of Sarah Blood d/o of Oliver Blood and Sarah Darling

SARAH BLOOD, b. October 9, 1754 d. before May 21, 1805 m. (as Sarah Blood Jr. of Groton) I assume the Jr. is due to her mother being Sarah. JOHN DARLING Jr in Groton on September 24, 1778. This is on the Winchendon Records. One interesting fact is that Sarah's mother's maiden name was Darling. Her grandfather, on her mothers side was John Darling.

It is unclear wether the author speaks of Sarah Blood, jr's mother being a Darling or Sarah Blood, sr. If he is then this information is self evident. Sarah Darling mother to Sarah Blood (above) ) was d/o to John Darling and Lois Gowing. However, it states 'her grandfther on her mother's side was John Darling'. Lois Gowing was not a Darling. Sarah Jr. grandfather on her mother's side is John Gowing.
The problem comes in with the secon dsentence. If the 'her' which begins the second sentence is referring to Sarah's mother (Sarah Darling) grandfather on her mother's side as being John Darling then then it had to be his daughter (Joanna/Johanna) who married John Gowing. The grandfather on her father's side is Robert Gowing. The known grandfather on the father's side is John Darling.
The Gene Pool, an organization which traces ancestry through DNA and genetics gives the wife of John Gowing as Joanna Darling and that through DNA material they have determined she was the mother of his children.
