I have recorded family tree infomation from the Wise and Myers families and their descendents. My research was of personal family documents and my mother's memory.
Linda L. (Wise) Wishart
My parents are Claude Preston Wise and Loretta France Myers.
My father's parents were Russell Lawson Wise and Ruth Margaret Miles. My mother's parents were Henry Lewis Myers and Flora (Florence) Margaret Mead. Although Gramma Flora had the middle name of Margaret on her marriage license, she used the middle name of Hazel. Dad had a brother, James, who died in infancy. And an adopted brother, George. Mom had two brother's, Harry and Richard, and a sister, Oneita.
The Wise family only goes back to my Great Grandparents, Levi Armstrong Wise from West Virginia, and Josephine Crandall from Missouri. I got the names from Grampa Russell's death certificate.
The farthest the Miles family goes back is to Matilda Hackenberg Miles. A portrait of her was done in 1840 by the famous artist, N. Currier, before he teamed up with Mr. Ives. She presented the portrait to her youngest daughter, Honora Acker Miles, in 1884. Honora presented the portrait to her youngest daughter, Phyllis Miles, in 1938. Phyllis had no daughters. So she presented the portrait to the son of her sister Ruth, Claude Preston Wise, because his daughter, Linda (me), appeared to be growing to resemble Hanora, and I wore my hair in curls similar to those of Matilda. Dad passed away in 1978. So my Mom, Loretta, presented the portrait to me in 1985.
Grampa Russell, from what I understand, was a genius. He graduated from college when he was 14. When he was 21, he became the principal of a school. Later he was a teacher of math and history. Gramma Ruth taught English and German. When they retired from the Chicago City School System, they went over to Germany to help rebuild the education system there, after the war. When they retired from civil service, they came to Florida, near Uncle George and Aunt Sue. While they were there, they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Some of their syblings also lived in Florida. Eventually they came to California, near Dad and Mom.
Grampa Russell's brother, Claude M., was a drama teacher. He wrote some books and helped write a dictionary. I have a letter from him describing Grampa Russell.
Gramma Ruth had four sister's and a brother. Phyllis, was a nurse. Mary, was an artist. Then there were Lucile and Marjorie. And her brother Preston.
The Myers family goes back to Great Great Grampa Daniel Long Myers, and Gramma Ann E. Dunlap, from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They were married in 1858. And Great Great Grampa John Murphy, was from Athiona, Ireland, and Gramma Agnes Dunderdale, was from Preston, England. John came to America in 1850. Agnes came to America in 1849. They were married in 1852.
The Mead family goes back to Stephen J. Mead, from Allegheny, NY. And Mary Root, from Warren County, PA. Joshua R. Crouch, from Rising Sun , IND, who was a Civil War Vet from
8-62 to 6-65, Company "C" Division 82nd Division. And Mary Jane Wilson from Switzerland County, IND. They were married August 3, 1873.
I discovered some information about the Miles side of the family in the pages of Tony Norris about his wife, Sherry's family. We share some ancestors and are cousins. Tony sent me a family reunion photo from 1920, which has Miles relations and Sherry's relations named Searfoss.
I received an email message from Joseph Smith(not Mormon) that he also is descended from the Miles clan. My grandmother Ruth Miles' father was George William Miles. His sister Hattie Belle Miles married Adam Homer Smith. Their fifth child Everett Miles Smith, married Margaret Harpole. They had two sons, Joseph Miles, & Robert Carl.
