Mike worked on various farms in the Deepdale, Roblin, and Makaroff districts. Mike bought his first quarter section of land in the valley near Starchuk's. There were no buildings so he made a house from granaries.

After he met Lena, his wife to be, he sold the valley quarter and bought a quarter near his wife's parents farm at Deepdale. Lena's sister, Stella married Frank Baronowski. Mike also drove a school bus for over 25 years while he was farming. He received a gold watch for his long service and good driving record.

Mike Filewich Jr., age 78 years, of Roblin, Manitoba, passed away Sunday, December 13, 1992, at Dauphin General Hospital.
Mike was born Thursday, October 29, 1914, a son of Dmytro and Sophie (nee Shasko) Filewich, on their homestead in the Timber School District, R.M. of Hills-burg, Manitoba. He attended school at Timber School, and then worked at Platt's Lumber, Cockerill's Mills, Timber Mills, as well as working for neighboring farmers in the district. He also helped his Dad and Uncle on the farm, later buying his own farm in the R.M. of Hillsburg.
Mike was united in Holy Matrimony to Lena Yahodynski in October of 1941 at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Following their marriage Mike and Lena farmed and raised their family in the Hillsburg, Shell River, and Deepdale Districts. As well as farming, Mike started driving a school bus to Makaroff in 1949, and later drove bus for Inter-mountain School Division, driving for approximately twenty-five years in total. In 1972 Mike retired and moved to the town of Roblin.
In his younger days, Mike played baseball, enjoyed dancing, and worked hard at his first job in the mills, saving his money to buy his first bike when he was twenty-one years old. Mike liked fishing trips, summer or winter. He looked forward to attending rodeos and chuck wagon races, liked playing cards with his children and grandchildren. Mike enjoyed driving to various places in the country, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in trouble or need.

Mike was predeceased by his parents, Dmytro and Sophie, his wife Lena on October 20, 1967, an infant daughter, Mary Filewich, sisters, Annie Sadowiak, and Nellie Gerega, brothers Harry and Peter Filewich, and brother-in-law Russell Sadowiak

Interment Service at Zelena Holy Cross Parish Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mike may be made to The Roblin Food Bank, NAIRN-CHYZ FUNERAL HOME entrusted with arrangements.
