GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH: My Father's family comes from Mariánské Hory, a neighborhood in Ostrava, the Czech Republic. The family name is spelled "Vojtanek" in Czech and "Wojtanek" in Polish because the Polish alphabet did not have a "V". I was told that it is derived from "vojtuszka"(?), which means "a clover" in Czech.

My Grandmother's family name was KIEPURA. Jan Kiepura, a famous Polish Tenor and star of screen was my Grandmother's Nephew.

ABOUT ME: Born in Krakow, Poland. Immigrated with family to Chicago, USA in about 1961. Dual citizen. Grew up in Chicago's historic Hyde Park Township on the South-East Side. Moved to Chicago's Gold Coast on the Near North Side in early 1970s and lived on Lake Shore Drive for about a decade.

Participated in the 1960s Peace Movement, Hippie Movement and Human Rights Movements though 1960s and 1970s. Moved to Warsaw's Old Town neighborhood in Poland in about 1985 to find my roots and to joined my Mother, who retired there a decade earlier.

  This is my family tree. My Grandmother's Nephew was Jan Kiepura - the famous Polish soprano. I still don't know what were my Grandparents Parent's names or how many children they had. Only know that they had many children and that they relocated from the Czech Republic (Father's Family) and Germany (Mother's Family) to Poland after World War II.

  My Mother was born in Bremen, Germany in 1913. Her Family Name was Mazur. She moved to the USA in 1960 and died in Krakow, Poland in 2005 at the age of 91. My Mother's Father was a professional Musician. I found his name in the Ellis Island records but he was not admitted to the U.S.A. because of his health, bad eyesight.
