I am searching for my ancestor, Joseph Francis Anthony, who came to North Carolina in about 1804. I think he worked for George Blair in Edenton, NC. He later married Nancy Ann Marshall, daughter of Dr. John Marshall of Beaufort, Carteret Co.,NC. They also lived in Newbern,NC. He was a sea captain and after he retired they moved to New Orleans where his sons, James, Frank, & George Blair Anthony were living. He died in New Orleans in 1844. Family tradition says Captain Anthony was from Spain and stowed away on a vessel owned by George Blair of Edenton,NC. I have not been able to find a documented connection between Blair and Anthony, but Anthony named his third son, George Blair. And I know that George Blair had a shipping company in Edenton, NC.
