My father is a Clark primarily of Virginia and my mother was a McCoy; a direct decendant of the Hatfields and McCoys in Kentucky. I have a lot of information on my mothers side, mainly because I spent time with my mothers oldest sister and she was the only relative that lived near us. We moved from the south in the 1960's. I have other Aunts and Uncles still living from my mothers side. My father, however, was motherless at the age of six weeks and was sent to live with an older uncle and aunt that lived in West Virginia. His father could not take care of a newborn along with two older toddlers. He continued to live with his aunt and uncle although his father remarried and fathered three sons. My father was not told the truth until his uncle died. He did not know much about his mother or her side of the family. In 1997, I visited my grandfather in Tennessee and he was in ill health. I started asking him questions about his family and that is where my research started. I went home and saved the pieces of paper I took notes on and in 2003 my husband, two sons and I traveled to Tennessee (to see my father), West Virginia and Virginia. It has been a process, but I am excited to learn about the family. It isn't easy, because my grandfather died in 1999 and it is hard, due to distance, to locate family members still living and information. My goal is to find out information of my father's mother and her family for him.
