The Heeney Family in Colorado Updated January 11, 2002
About Our Family Research
The Heeney family in Colorado came here from Davenport, Iowa, by way of Thomas F. Heeney. He became a sheep rancher in Colorado Springs at the dawn of the 20th century. He married Ida Long and the union produced Blanche Heeney, Florence Heeney, Thomas Heeney, Paul Revere Heeney, Dorothy Irene Heeney, Ira Davis Heeney, and Chester Elmer Heeney. Paul was perhaps the most colorful - a fight resulting the death of his opponent motivated him to visit the mountains for a bit, where he founded the town of Heeney between Silverthorne and Kremmling. The Heeney family in Colorado has flourished in the mountain climates and has spread into many of the central mountain and front-range communities.
