S.F. was born to Henry B. and Bertha Maeola Bristow Turner on March 18 1903, on the Cole farm NE of Rochester, Texas in Haskell County.
Willie Mae was born to James Lavey and Mollie Z. Sanders Goode on March 15, 1910 in Wise County, near Alvord, Texas.
The courtship of S.F. and Willie Mae started in a model T Ford while they lived on nearby farms. This made it handy for S.F.. They were married on Christmas Day, December 25, 1926, in the front room of the house on the Goode farm three miles SE of Rochester. There was three inches of snow on the ground and it froze real hard that night. The Rev. L.E. Frazier, Baptist Minister, of Rochester, performed the ceremony at about 4:30 in the afternoon. One of the instances S.F. remembers is that no one would go after the preacher, so he did, in his new 1926 Model T Ford, which cost about $650.00. The best man was "Doc" Wreyford and his wife was maid of honor. Willie Mae's dress was Blondine crepe with blue trim, made by Verdie Creiger, in Haskell. It cost $5.00 to have it made. The immediate families from both sides and close friends and neighbors were at the wedding and this amounted to about 45 people. Everyone but the preacher stayed for the big supper after the wedding. Rev. Frazier hd to go home and have Christmas supper with his family.
The wedding trip started a few days later, when S.F. and Willie Mae journeyed all the way to Chillicothe, Texas, a good four hour drive---with no flats---to visit relatives.
The first farm they lived on was the G.C. Carothers farm, four miles SE of Rochester. Their first child, Leona Loveta, was born there on February 6, 1929. They they moved to the Joe Hester farm, four miles NE of Rochester where their oldest son, Billie Dale, was born on August 29,1931. The next two years were spent in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, farming. They moved back to Rochester on the Goode farm, and this is where Ruby Maxine was born on November 7, 1933.
The next few years were spent in Rochester and on a farm west of Haskell, Texas, near where the Drive-In Theatre was. Mary Frances was born here on July 3, 1936. Then they moved back to the Rio Grande Valley to farm. This is where Frankie Louise was born on April 25, 1939, near Edinburg, Texas. They they journeyed back to Haskell County, near Jud, Texas, on the Old Bristow Place. This is where Mollie Maeola was born on August 30, 1940 and Barbara Jean on February 8, 1942. Then they moved to the old Mullino Place, then owned by Kathleen Irwin, three miles SE of Rochester. While living there Evelyn Ann was born on July 11, 1946, Shores (Jr. or Sam) Franklin, Jr. on January 23, 1948, Gleen B. on November 23, 1949 and Kenneth Ray on September 3, 1953. They lived on that farm until they bought a house in Rochester.
