My mother kept every old letter and every old picture she got her hands on and I never quite understood why until she passed away recently. What she left me was a treasure-trove of family history. And it was enough to spark a desire to look further and further into the past. In my searching I have found many long lost cousins and made some new friends. I have followed my families as they fought indians, endured hardships and pressed ever Westward. I have been amazed at how they moved their entire families hundreds of miles looking for what?.. a better place to live, love, raise their babies and die...leaving a cornucopia of stories, mysteries, and tragedies. With one exception, all my families began their American Journey in Virginia and slowly moved westward to Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and from there, some went North to Iowa and Missouri while others went on to Oklahoma and Texas and some pressed on as far west as they could go...California, Oregon and Washington.
