The Sanders of Buckland and beyond.

Updated November 17, 2006

About Our Family Research

The Sanders family arrived in Australia in dribs and drabs over the course of thirty years in the 1800s. I have followed many of them, a few have proved elusive, but all have been interesting in their own way.
The earliest members of this family I have found so far were living in the village of Buckland in Surrey. Thomas Sanders or Saunders and his wife Elizabeth Kempsall were there in the 1760s. Their son Richard is our direct link to this couple. By 1800 Richard Sanders had moved his family to Carshalton and then Mitcham where most of the men worked as gardeners.
By the end of the 1800s only a few remained in the area since nearly all of the family had emigrated to NSW. I hope one day to have a complete picture of this family, who they all were, where they lived and what their lives were like.
