I have been researching my Johnson - Jensen family line which originated in the Danish regions of Svendborg and Haderslev. In the 1870's both left their homeland for a new life. Andrew went to New York and a few years later Mary and her sister went to Stillwater, Minnesota. I believe Andrew & Mary must have met in Stillwater where they fell in love, married by 1882. By 1883 they purchased land and built a modest home in the "Dutchtown" area of Stillwater where their son William was born.
Sadly, Andrew died 6 yrs later leaving behind Mary and their young son William J. Mary took in boarders the majority of her time living on the hill above Stillwater's State Prision. William J. later married and for a time raised his two children up on the hill close to his aging mother. My dad Wm A. use to laugh about the time when he was a toddler riding his pedal car above the prision walls and took a tumble into its prision yard. He was not hurt other then a few bumps and scrapes. The warden and guards use to joke, that he was the youngest fellow to ever land in Stillwater prision! A point he made sure never to repeat!
Current research is on finding the lost Jensen - Johnson families that were related to Andrew & Mary.
