My Father, born in Elton, Westbury on Severn, County of Gloucester, on Feb 19, 1910, left England when he was 17 working on the "Cunnard Line" Altonia. He worked for the Bank of Montreal when he was 28, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He enlisted in June 1940, when I was 4 months old, in Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps. He saw service in the U.K. Dec,1940 with the 1st Canadian Army Ordinance Workshop. On D-Day, he landed in Normandy with the first troops of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. After coming safely through the initial heavy fighting in that area, he was severely wounded at Caen and died on August 6th, 1944 as a result of his injuries. I was 4-1/2 by then and hadn't seen my father since I was 9 months old. As I was growing up, I was forbidden to mention anything about my father and now I am searching for some roots. I sent away for his birth certificate and discovered my grandfather's name and granmother's name. I have a long way to go. Feb 6/02..Now have grandfathers Name...Cornelius William and grandmothers name, Lucy Agnes Boughton. Also discovered an uncle Frnak who died at 6 yr,3months old in Dec 16, 1909. Harry, another uncle, I have no date of birth or any history. He might have been born before or after my father.
