I am descended from the "Yates" family as follows:
William Yates; born circa 1790-1800 in Virginia, United States of America, and lived most of his life in Cross Anchor, (now known as Riverside), Old Campbell County (now known as Fulton County), Georgia.
George Washington Yates; born April 4, 1837, in Cross Anchor, (now known as Riverside), Old Campbell County (now known as Fulton County), Georgia (on the rail line between Atlanta and Macon; the community has probably been absorbed as a suburb of Atlanta). He was a member of the Army of the Confederate States of America and was "stationed" for a brief period of time in New Orleans, Louisiana, during the U.S. Civil War. That city surrendered to U.S. Naval forces in April 1862. For the remainder of the War, he fought in North-West Louisiana (Shreveport) which was a Confederate "stronghold". It remained hostile even after General Robert E. Lee (CSA) surrendered his Army to General U.S. Grant (USA) at Appomattox, Virginia, and President Jefferson Davis (CSA) fled the "Old South" for Europe. After the War, George Washington Yates returned to Georgia, married, and then relocated to Claiborne Parish in northern Louisiana to homestead and raise children.
Odus Eugene Yates; born July 13, 1888, in Haynesville, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. He lived his early adult life in Haynesville, Louisiana, married, and relocated to a farm in Magnolia, Columbia County, Arkansas, in 1922, to allow his children to attend Southern State College (now known as Southern Arkansas University) which was located nearby.
Douglas Sam Yates; born August 4, 1921, in Haynesville, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. As an infant, he relocated with his family to Magnolia, Columbia County, Arkansas, in 1922. He served in the US Navy during World War II (Pacific Theatre) on board the U.S.S. San Francisco (Cruiser) from 1942 to 1945 and during the Korean War on board the U.S.S. Jenkins (Destroyer) from 1951 to 1952. His wife also served in the US Navy as a Registered Nurse in the Women's Appointed Volunteer Emergency Services (WAVES) during WW II in New York City, New York; Washington, D.C.; and Seattle, Washington. Married since 1946, they reside in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona.
Harry Eugene Yates; born August 4, 1947, in Camden, Ouachita County, Arkansas. I have two sons born in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada, in 1981 and 1984. All three of us are "dual" citizens of Canada and the United States of America.
My other family "ancestor" names include:
. . Small . . Dodson . . Dafford . . Runyan
