Hello, my name is Myles Stewart Yates, originally from Sumter, South Carolina. I am the great-grandson of Robert Jarret Yates, the grandson of Charles Britton Yates, and the son of Madison Lamar Yates - all from Sumter, SC. and surrounding communities.
Desendents of Robert Jarret Yates held the first Yates family reunion on June 1, 2002. Following reunions are to be held every other year - the next to be in 2004. No specific date has been set at this time. All branches of Robert Jarret Yates descendants were well represented. Many expressed interest in joining in on the research of the Robert Jarret Yates family history. Several years ago, I began documenting valuable information gathered from living family members. I have since come across many valuable documents and pictures. Thanks to other family members, I was able to scan several pictures at the reunion. To date, the farthest I have been able to trace back to is Robert Jarret Yates. However, I have possibly located the father of Robert J. Yates. The 1860 Census of Bishopville, SC. lists a Robert J. Yates as the son of a Robert S. and Margaret Yates. I am in the process of trying to prove this connection.
