My grandfather, Andrew Rinerson came to Minnesota by oxcart when he was three years old. The family moved from Iowa County, WI in the late 1880's, and settled in what was to become Lake Ida Township of Norman County. Grandpa brought a cottonwood seedling which had been dug from the river near their home in Wisconsin, so Grandpa told me. This tree still stands in the yard. Grandpa Rinerson was a descendant of Halver Rinerson, who was one of four brothers, the others being: Bjorn, Lars and Andre who immigrated to the USA in 1848. My husband, Richard, and I traveled to Iowa County two years ago searching for records of the family. We visited with the Mike Rhinerson family, who is a descendant of Lars Rhinerson, Halver Rinerson's brother. Also, we visited with Beatrice Knudtson and Diane Robb, descendants of Bjorn or Bennie Rinerson. What still remains a mystery, is: Grandpa's mother was Caroline (or Karen.) As indicated on early census records. When settling in MN, his mother was listed as Martha. Born to Andrew Sr. in WI were four sons. Listed in MN were also five girls. Somewhere, Caroline (Karen) died and Martha came into the picture. Also, Great-grandpa Andrew was born in WI to Halver(Albert) and Mary Rinerson, but no further information is found on those two. I am trying to find more information on them. And thirdly, there were originally four brothers, when and why did they separate? These are things we will probably never know. Presently, I am researching these families: Rinerson, Rhyerson, Rhinerson, Natwick (the maiden name of my grandmother Tilda) Hanson, Everson, Johnson (surnames from my maternal grandmother) Starkson and Nordby(my maternal grandfather's family. The family tree can be viewed below In the Rinerson Web Site. Type in Rinerson as the password. If you have additions, corrections, etc email me. I am in the process of working on getting the family tree on this site.
