About Our Family Research

Originally from the Basque country in Spain, the Havana Zarragoitias arrived in Oriente, Cuba as plantation owners in the 1700s.
The first Zarragoitia in Cuba was a baron and not very well liked by the local Cuban people whom, it was said, he mistreated.
Upon his death, the locals destroyed the tower he was having built. Old documents state that the name Zarragoitia was used as a slander word for some time.
