The original spelling of our Polish family name is "Zima" and was changed to "Zemo" between February 1907 and December 1908.
Our grandfather, Michael was born on December 27, 1883 in Krakow, Poland in the village of Witkowice. He is the son of Adam Zima and Josephiet Margarethe Liamske. He had 3 brothers, Jan (John), Marcin (Martin), and Wojciech (George or Albert) and 1 sister.
Michael and his 3 brothers and their families are known to settle in Chicago, Illinois beginning in 1900 with Marcin followed by Jan in 1901, Michael in 1903, and Wojciech in 1906.
Our grandmother Justina Sokolowski was born on February 7, 1885. She was the daughter of George and Kalbethiet Reginae Lekanske. She had 3 sisters, Maria, Kasmira are two of them. Maria and her 2 sisters and their families along with some cousins and their families are found to also have settled in Chicago, Illinois beginning in 1901 with Maria and Justina in 1902 and Casimira.
