Pilgrim Genealogies and Histories, 1600s-1900s
About the Data
In 1620, seeking religious freedom, a small group of Pilgrims set sail from England determined to establish a colony in the New World. The ship that they chartered, the Mayflower, has been estimated to be only about 113 feet long. Despite its small size, the ship managed to accommodate some 102 passengers. During their extensive journey, they endured many trials and experienced many joys. Among the challenges was the death of a group member and a Pilgrim who fell overboard. However, they happily welcomed the birth of a baby to join in their adventure. It took the Mayflower sixty-six days to make the 2,750 mile voyage from Plymouth, England to the New World. In the end, the captain steered the group much farther north than they had planned landing them at Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Ultimately, they settled in an area protected by a small harbor and called it Plymouth. The books indexed and compiled in this data set detail the lives of these courageous settlers and their descendants. Comprehensive in their coverage of early New England settlers, the resources that make up this data set are also expertly sourced. What you'll find:
