About the Data
This data set is a comprehensive index of more than 600,000 individuals who were found in New York records between 1675 and 1920. The information was extracted from a broad range of records including passenger lists, land records, city directories, and census records. Finding record of an individual in this data set is a great clue because it determines that the person lived in New York at a particular point in time. Generally, you'll learn the following information about an individual:
Some records also include information on a person's occupation, military ranking, title, immigration information, etc. In addition, you may find an "ID number" assigned to an individual by the LDS Church. With the information provided by this data set you should be able to find your ancestor in other records of genealogical value, which are not necessarily included in this index.
