This data set contains page
images for 12 volumes of compiled passenger lists and was produced in collaboration
with the Genealogical Publishing Company. It includes lists of approximately
46,000 Irish passengers who arrived in the United States and Canada primarily
in the nineteenth century.
"Passenger lists are important
primary sources of arrival data for the vast majority of immigrants to North
America in the nineteenth century. With the single exception of federal census
records they are the largest, the most continuous, and the most uniform body
of records of the entire country." [Michael Tepper. "American Passenger Arrival
Records." Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc. 1993. Page 64.]
While researching original
passenger lists can often be tedious and difficult, this data set makes finding
your immigrant ancestors easier than ever. For each individual listed in this
data set, you will generally find the following information: name and age, arrival
date, country of origin, and occupation. With the information provided, you
should be able to establish a very complete immigration record for your Irish
ancestor.
