About the Data
This data set is made up of the images of the pages of nine titles originally published by the Genealogical Publishing Company. Approximately 190,000 individuals are referenced within this unique collection of Irish census, land, marriage and probate records. This collection of books is especially valuable since the majority of Ireland's collection of original wills and census records were destroyed in a 1922 fire at the Public Records Office in Dublin. Much of the information compiled in this data set was thought to be lost in the fire. For example, although nearly all of Ireland's pre-1901 census records were destroyed, here you'll find extensively researched reconstructions of the 1841 and 1851 censuses as well as transcriptions of the surviving 1851 census fragments for County Cork. In addition, you'll find record of wills that were abstracted or copied before the fire. Within the great variety of records collected here, you'll find:
