This data set is made up
of page images from 14 books originally published by the Genealogical Publishing
Company. Comprehensive in its coverage early West Virginia, this unique collection
of family and local histories, marriage records, military records, and court
records references approximately 200,000. This compilation of books is especially
useful because much of the information was collected from local sources and
covers the period of time when West Virginia was part of Virginia and before
the state began keeping record of vital events in 1917.
Among the valuable resources,
you'll find a list of all Revolutionary War soldiers who lived, at one time
or another, in West Virginia and an index of civilians who participated in the
War effort. In addition, this data set includes a collection of family histories
and a comprehensive compilation of the state's earliest marriages. In an interesting
twist on genealogical record keeping, you'll find two volumes of genealogical
and architectural histories. Such works include historical information on a
building and genealogical information on its inhabitants. In combination, all
of the records collected here will help you put the lives of your early West
Virginia ancestors in historical context.
Within the great variety
of records collected here, you'll find:
- Names and descriptions
of family members;
- Dates and details of
vital events;
- Location of residence;
- Historical essays;
- Biographical sketches;
- Details of military service.
