This data set is made up
of the indexed page images from 15 titles originally published by the Genealogical
Publishing Company. In records ranging from newspaper abstracts and marriage
licenses to military diaries and cemetery transcriptions, these books identify
approximately 313,000 of Maryland's settlers and soldiers.
Since the books chosen for
inclusion here cover a great variety of topics, this data set is an especially
comprehensive resource. Among the unique resources you'll find a two-volume
set (Maryland Records: Colonial, Revolutionary, County and Church from Original
Sources) that is said to be the most comprehensive collection of basic information
ever compiled in Maryland genealogy. In addition, more than half of the books
deal with military records (for example bounty land applications, muster rolls,
pension claims, orderly books, etc.) and identify civilian and enlisted participants
in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the War of 1812. You'll also find
transcriptions of tombstones for Quakers and Civil War soldiers buried in Baltimore
cemeteries.
Generally, you'll find the
following information about an individual included in this data set:
- Name;
- Names of family members;
- Dates and details of
vital events (births, marriages, and deaths);
- Information on military
service.
